The only way things will change is when this kind of email translates into voting results at the polls --as of NOW -- PENSIONERS outnumber ANY OTHER type of voter even by race - religion - or age ---

WHEN ARE PENSIONERS going to wake up and understand, WE have the power to shape legislation all WE need is the will power to do so--

‘Entitlement’ my arse, I paid good money for my State Pension and other benefits. Just because they borrowed that money, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or hand-out. Gold plated MP pensions and Civil Service Government benefits, free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, 20 weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call me a 'greedy pensioner' and my retirement, an ‘entitlement’.

What the HELL is wrong with us?  Wake up England!

Someone please tell me what the HELL is wrong with all the people that run this country?

We're "broke" & can't help our own Pensioners, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc., but spent 1.2 billions of £££'s for G-20 events!
In the last few months we have provided aid to India, Greece and Turkey . And now Afghanistan, Pakistan ...... home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of Pounds. Our retirees living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organisations pour Hundreds of Billions of ££££'s and tons of food to foreign countries.

They call Old Age Security and Healthcare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives, and now when it’s time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?

We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.

ENGLAND: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, hospitals being closed, average income families who can't afford dental care, elderly going without 'needed' meds and having to travel hundreds of miles for medical care with no reimbursement of cost, vehicles we can't afford fuel for, lack of affordable housing, and mentally ill without treatment - etc., etc.

Yet...They have a 'benefit' for the people of foreign countries...ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents, clothes, bedding, doctors, and medical supplies.

Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries

Sad isn't it?

I agree. I have had been contributing to my pension for forty five years. In no way can it be described as a hand out.

Looks like that makes two of us Martin.  Must say I expected a somewhat more positive response from Grey Pride members.  Guess we are already beaten...

I agree wholeheartedly.  We are not beaten, we just need to organise.  Facebook page has been suggested....good idea.

regards, Liz N.Wales

Just one (very small) point - why don't you start a Facebook

Interesting request Laurie.  This is very easy to do but my workload currently would mean very very few posts.

If I set it up, would you accept being a moderator responsible for posts and replies?  I would need your email address to do this.

What would you suggest as a page name?

find it a bit ridiculous that we want a "minister" for older people ...when Joan Bakewell spoke on behalf of older people it made me angry we needed some "one" to speak on our behalf... there are millions of us i agree with above comment by Alan Cummings, bur it doesn't go far enough ! but realise getting angry isn't the way to go its DOING something about it watch this space ... Susan Chaple

I think the real problem is, lack of numbers who want to post on sites like this.  Many of our generation have"issues", especially about race/colour/status, and of course, sexual orientation, which they will NOT talk about - meaning that the name "Grey Pride" means something other than YOU would like.  So your pool of viewers is going to be limited, even though I know exactly what the group stand for.  A re-branding and relaunch is probably required.  Poll your existing viewers?

agree 70%in as much as all the "issues" you speak of quite rightly are tied up i think with fear. The other 30% was my own reluctance to join, as in WHY do so many people speak for ME am very able to speak on my own behalf...would love it if more older people challenged talk programmes etc about why society and the media in general i certainly do but with reason first then passion...& why don't these groups stop thier claptrap about what they THINK older people are/do/think and actually involve them !!!! We need to step up more TOO !

I agree Susan - being a "silent" majority simply gets you ignored. If older people want action they have to say so to those we pay to do our will. We, once retired, have the time but what we often lack is the will. As a result we want someone else to do it for us - a Minister.  Personally, I trust nobody to (always) represent my views and prefer to make the life of my MP interesting by developing a frequent and meaningful dialogue with them.  Whilst this group has some influence, I suggest joining 38Degrees (truly democratic) to counter the power of the paid lobbyists.

If you want power in the UK you pay professional lobbyists OR in true DIY tradition, you get off your backside and.....

Hello, yes  agree with some of your comments but not all Alan,  to follow your drift why not stand as an MP for this purpose yourself ?   Its all relative "cos so many older people want someone to speak on their behalf, it makes me annoyed. As i said in previous comment DONT want some speaking on my behalf... by the way whiltst we have been sending messages this past two days have now got on and set a facebook enviromental facebook page called "New Green Earth community", have had over a dozen join hope to encourage lots more. Did have a page linked to my normal facebook page with 40 members. Find technology easy as ABC so should most older people logically we've been using computers foe 35 yrs for heavens sake !! setting up a facebook page isn't difficult as you say but needs research application and passion to run properly...Susan Chaple

I love your comments Carol - confirms that we are all different (nothing wrong with this).  However, I'm not different enough to be an MP - I can't stand political parties, hate the low-brow level of argument and don't think they would stand me as a total maverick .

Best wishes with your Facebook page.  I'll take a look when I get a minute...
