The Anchor Community Band

The Anchor Community Band is our new Grey Pride project to keep older people on the agenda.

Building on the success of the campaign calling for a dedicated Minister for Older People, we are producing a charity single that celebrates the positive aspects of ageing and challenges stereotypes and misconceptions in a fun and inclusive way.

Anchor have worked with people over the age of 60 to write the words of a song that is being recorded by older people living in our care homes and retirement housing properties across England, known collectively as The Anchor Community Band.

Music is a powerful medium which brings people together and we wanted to write a song based on real life experiences, lifetime achievements, challenges overcome as well as older peoples’ aspirations for the future. Together we are creating a record that highlights the wealth of talents older people have and hopefully, will become synonymous with the benefits of age!

All the money raised from sales of the single will go towards Contact the Elderly, a national charity which aims to combat loneliness and isolation faced by older people who live alone.

A new Group with dedicated forum has been created on this site for people who wish to take part in this project. Find the Group here or for more information about taking part message site moderator Kathryn.

We are also tweeting about this project using our new hashtag - #AnchorCommunityBand. Use it and we'll retweet your message.

The success of this single will depend on what we have to say through it, so please don’t be shy or modest!

Let the world know what you’ve done with your life, what has made you happy and proud during it, the best advice you’ve ever received and which aspects of aging you think should be celebrated.
