EVERONE SHOULD HAVE A CARABOS

This is a Blog of Empathy. And by that, I mean, it goes out to all those who are battle-weary. You've been doing great things, lots of people love what you do, but you keep coming up against the few people who seem to think it's their mission in life to make things difficult for you.You know the ones. If money is handled, they suspect it's being siphoned off somewhere by someone. If there's a trip, you must have bumped up the price so you could go on it for nothing yourself. "This is great. It's important that now that digital technology is becoming homogenized, people have early contact with touch screens in this country of ours. The issue, however, for most older people or those who seek to support them, is cost.…"

I imagine that when I was diagnosed with the mental health condition cyclothymia (rapid cycling bipolar) 5 years ago most people expected me to curl up and shrivel away. I know there were a few who hoped I would (LOL, as they say!). Far from it. Here's my guest blog on the Big Lottery Fund site, posted by BIG today:http://bigblog.org.uk/2013/06/19/it-club-opens-window-of-opportunity-for-jan/Older people…See More

AGE UK INTERNET CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

Hi friends - I was thrilled to be named one of this year's two Age UK Internet Champions at an award ceremony at the Royal Society, London, last week. The trophy (see my Facebook page) was presented by the wonderful and kind June Whitfield.

I share the title with James Perry (92 from the Isle of Sheppey). We were selected because we have amazing stories of how we endured our own computing and internet challenges and are now helping and encouraging other older people to do the…

Hello Jan - I hope you are well.

I thought I'd send you a quick message to draw your attention to a new topic I've just posted about community resources as I think you'd have some good thoughts to share on the topic...plus i mention your community gardening project in it :)

I'm looking to encourage us all to discuss local resources and community events, and as quite an active member of the site I was wondering if there any local projects in your area you'd like to tell people about? You can see my post and reply to it here.

Look forward to hearing from you

Kathryn

Well, to use the title "Grey Pride" surely implies that there is something wonderful about the colour? Go into your local art gallery and observe its use in beautiful paintings.

What a fantastic way to celebrate entering that new stage, the symbolism, the crown and especially the chocolate cake! The Red Tent shares Grey Pride's enthusiasm for ensuring the needs of older people are understood and represented.

I think other members would be interested in hearing more about your views and the croning ceremony, maybe you could add a new blog on the subject?  Do you think it would be ok to present the petition at the next meeting?  We have managed to get 40,000 signatures so far but still have a long way to go.
