PURPLE DAY APPROACHES

I was particularly pleased to see that Grey Pride's choice of colour for this website is PURPLE. The reason is that Purple has become the international colour for epilepsy awareness.

It all started because a Canadian schoolgirl called Cassidy Megan had a bright idea:

http://www.purpleday.org/

March 26th approaches, and there will be events held worldwide to raise awareness of epilepsy. Epilepsy Sucks UK have finalised several…

Fit for every occasion

Strictly speaking, I don't approve of me using the word "fit". Nowadays, it is considered more accurate and acceptable to use "seizure". That's because past, and even present generations use "fit" in some strange ways. For example, "I nearly threw a fit", could mean the person was shocked to such an extraordinary degree that she/he was on the verge of an hysterical outburst. Phew!

Seizure for every occasion. Not quite as snappy. No positive connotations of being so healthy that no set…

Hello Richard

I hope you are well.

I thought I'd send you a quick message to draw your attention to a new topic I've just posted about community resources as I think you'd have some good thoughts to share on the topic!

I'm looking to encourage us all to discuss local resources and community events, and as quite an active member of the site I was wonderng if there any local projects in your area you'd like to tell people about? You can see my post and reply to it here.

Look forward to hearing from you

Kathryn

Hello Richard

Thank you for taking the time to raise these points today, all of them are really helpful.

We are hoping to look at making the site more "dynamic" over the next few weeks, and have been thinking about how we can make things both clearer and easier for all potential users. Naming moderators may well be step number 1!

Might try and get a discussion going with all the members this week about how we can improve the community for everyone.

I hope you have a great day Richard :)

Hello Richard,

Firstly - apologies for not introducing myself! My name is Kathryn and I'm one a of a team of people who work together to monitor the Grey Pride site, offer help and share updates on the campaign and news we think the members might find interesting.

I do usually include my name when I message people; it's just one of those Monday mornings!

I'm sorry if my answer did not reassure you that this site is safe, however I can assure you that all personal details are stored securely, and this site is as safe as any other community site on the internet that people post information to.

You make a very valid point about this site being easy to find if people search for Grey Pride, however we hope to reach out to a wide range of people who may be searching for other topics which we are discussing here. When the site was launched we hoped to be inclusive and to give all the members content as wide an audience as possible, get views of older people, and about older people as much coverage as possible.

Yours is a very interesting view though, do you think people would prefer that the site was more exclusive and they had to become members to see any of the blogs or discussions underway? Did you not feel that when you became a member it was clear to you that what you post will be viewable to the public?

Best wishes

Kathryn

Morning Richard

Hope you are well this brisk Monday morning!

I saw your status update regarding your name appearing in search results and wanted to let you know why.

This website is open to the public, anyone can join it and once joined, anyone can comment and share their thoughts, as long as they abide by our Terms of Service. To encourage people to find us and join the site we have therefore set all of the site's published content to be viewable to anyone on the internet, which means that search engines can "crawl" the entire public section of the site and display what they find in their results.

Are there any posts you've made that you are worried about appearing in search results? I will be happy to help you remove them if so.

Welcome to Grey Pride Richard!

Thank you for joining our community!  Interesting status, why not write a blog about the various seizure disorders which are common in people over 60?

The hot topics Grey Priders on the site are discussing at the moment include ‘are older people in big houses selfish’, ‘pension planning’ and ‘how old are older people’.

We want to get a debate going on exactly what the crucial issues facing older people are, and what old age means to you. Why not introduce yourself to the community by writing a blog or joining in on our discussion page?

Let’s get people talking and paying attention to our ageing population!
