I've just come onto the site and cast my vote on 'What should a Minister for Older People address first?' All the points on the list seem very important to me, but there was one that had polled an AMAZINGLY low number of votes: "Digital inclusion & getting older people online". Oh dear! The people who are voting are all 'digitally included' already - the evidence being, we're here on Grey Pride! Lucky us! Most of my neighbours on this 50+ Assisted Living council estate are not so…

I am Thankful
I AM THANKFUL:
FOR THE WIFE WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT, BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME, AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
FOR THE HUSBAND WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO, BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.
FOR THE TEENAGER WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS.
FOR THE TAXES I PAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.
FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN…

I have been teaching a nun over the interenet how to paint icons (religious pictures) over a period of time I got to know her very well and managed to get over to the nunnery to meet her. Imagine the shock when one day out of the blue I got a message from her asking for money "as she was in Spain, had lost her purse and desperately needed some money sent to her". I new that the order my nun belonged to meant they relinquished all possessions, she would not have a purse, nor indeed…

PLEASE READ ON LINE OR WATCH OUT FOR THE TV PROGRAMMES ON HPV...the programme was on BBC4
I recently watched a programme on BBC4 ( January) which discussed the virus HPV, at present all young girls upto the age of 16 are receiving an innoculation against this from contracting cervical cancer and other types of cancer, but young boys are not receiving this innoculation, the assumption being, if all the females are innoculated then its not necessary to innoculate the males (think this is called the herd factor? not too sure of the last word). This would be fine, but obviously…

CATARACT OPERATIONS......NO NEED TO FEAR....NO PAIN WHATSOEVER......
Hi there everybody,
I had my first cataract operation on December the 22nd last year....I am writing this in case anybody is about to have this operation for the first time.
I was pretty terrified at the thought of the operation, but from the word go, I arrived at the hospital, was eased into a very comfortable chair and treated with great kindness. Everything was explained to me by the…

Following 137,000 people signing our Grey Pride petition, a delegation went to 10 Downing Street on Monday 28 November to formally call for a Minister for Older People.

Europe shames Britain on care for the elderly.
Europe shames Britain on care for the elderly as we rank 17th out of 20 in list of money spent on our elders, says this article.
Successive governments have betrayed Britain’s pensioners by spending less on social care for the elderly than almost any other country in Europe.
Research which campaigners say ‘should…

Yesterday, in Tesco's
Yesterday, at the till in Tescos, the young girl at the till suggested I should use a bag for life as carrier bags weren't good for the environment. I explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my younger days." Jokingly, She responded, "That's the problem today. Your generation didn't care enough to save our environment for future generations."
She was right about one thing -- our ge...neration wasn't…

'OLD' IS WHEN...
'OLD' IS WHEN... Your sweetie says, 'Let's go upstairs and make love,' and you answer, 'Pick one; I can't do both!'
'OLD' IS WHEN... Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you're barefoot.
'OLD' IS WHEN... Going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.
'OLD' IS WHEN.... You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go along.
'OLD' IS WHEN... You are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by…
