1. Kidnappers are not very Interested in you.

COMMUNITY GARDENING

Hi again

I live on a 50+ assisted living council estate - 2 tower blocks side by side with a lot of green space that's unused. Then I heard about this:

http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/

- and what's being done there. So I got thinking, ran the idea past a few people (with their heads screwed on better than mine!) and came up with our Garden Development Project.

Basically, it's about…

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Hi folks

I just wanted to write a little bit about the condition I suffer from, which is 'cyclothymia' - or bipolar (manic depression) with rapid cycling - frequent, abrupt and extreme changes in what is still called 'mood', but is in fact brain function. I have a high IQ and a Master from Oxford Uni to prove it (though I'm sure I'm bound to get someone post back that it means nothing!) but when I'm 'down' I become such a mess I can burn a boiled egg, trip over my own feet, wet myself…

BRINGING OLDER PEOPLE INTO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH HISTORY

I am very happy to join Grey Pride, having signed the petition for a dedicated Minister, and followed the campaign on Twitter.

Since late 2010 I have been working with a group of World War Two evacuees in Greater Manchester - they fled to England from Guernsey in June 1940 just before the German occupation of their island. They lived in Northern England for the five years of the war, and for various reasons, remained here…

NEVER MIND SHARING THE BATHWATER.....HOW ABOUT SHARING HOMES?

In light of the recent article by the Grey Pride org. on us oldies having to sell our homes to provide for our futures .....my response.....

"Hm..... food for thought and just a short while ago they were advocating we swopped our larger houses for small ones to give the younger folk a better home....so......instead of sharing your bathwater.......perhaps find another Grey Prider with a house/flat etc., similar to yours, share one house and rent out the other house/flat etc.,   less…

PURPLE DAY APPROACHES

I was particularly pleased to see that Grey Pride's choice of colour for this website is PURPLE. The reason is that Purple has become the international colour for epilepsy awareness.

It all started because a Canadian schoolgirl called Cassidy Megan had a bright idea:

http://www.purpleday.org/

March 26th approaches, and there will be events held worldwide to raise awareness of epilepsy. Epilepsy Sucks UK have finalised several…

Older People's Information Day

Just to let you all know that the Older People's Information Day which was held today and was organised by Doncaster 50plus was a huge success despite the weather the public really did support this event and came in there droves.  It was opened by the Civic Mayor Eva Hughes and I would like to say a big thank you to her and I would like to say a big thank you to all the organisations that took part today.

We have had excellent feedback and they would like Doncaster 50plus to…

Millions of Britons ignorant of care costs

Over 11 million Britons risk poverty in old age as they are unaware they may have to pay for their own social care.

Whether weight is a "problem" in your life or it's some other single factor, this can apply to everyone. Never forget it! You are beautiful. Your beauty, just like your capacity for life, happiness, and success, is immeasurable. Day after day, countless people across the globe get on a scale in search of validation of beauty and social acceptance. ... Get off the scale! I have yet to see a scale that can tell you how…

Getting out and about

In the search of eternal youth, I am going to take on the challenge of a massive bike ride. This will be two-pronged because it, I hope, will not only keep my healthy, but also be of help in raising money for those poor unfortunate people currently out on the streets of our fair cities. All money raised will go to a charity called Two Saints which helps homeless people get back onto their feet, gets them into training programs and finds them housing. Even more important in this day because…
