Esther Rantzen
Hope someone could help me. This may be a long shot but, I would like very much to contact Esther Rantzen as I see from the news that she is also very interested in the campaign to end loneliness. Is there anyone who could help get in touch with her please.

I do find this story quite uplifting!
As we get older we sometimes begin to doubt our ability to "make a difference" in the world. It is at these times that our hopes are boosted by the remarkable achievements of other "seniors" who have found the courage to take on challenges that would make many of us wither.
Harold is such a person:
THIS IS QUOTED FROM HAROLD:
"I've often been asked, 'What do you do now that you're retired?'
Well...I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background and one of…

The Budget - a license to steal from pensioners??
Added by Robert Grimason on March 22, 2012 at 16:01 — 1 Comment
This year’s Budget announcement included a nasty surprise for the country’s older people; the amount of income that is not taxed will be frozen for those aged over 65, ending the longstanding entitlement to a higher personal allowance for pensioners.
This will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the people approaching retirement who are trying to make financial plans for their future.

Why we love children...
UDITY I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, 'Mam, that lady isn't wearing a seat belt!'
OPINIONS On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this…

Exit Fees from Retirement Properties
There was a controversy a few years ago regarding exit fees when you sell a retirement property, with 1% being paid to the landlord. Some companies voluntarily stopped this. HOWEVER some continue to charge 1% of the estimated value of the property if you sub-let. And given the current property market, there may be little choice but to sub-let if the property is unoccupied for whatever reason?
This is all tucked away in the small print of the lease and is not mentioned when you…

SOS - Financial education needed in the workplace
A recent joint report by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) and the Pensions Institute (PI) at Cass Business School has found that half a million people retiring each year are being dramatically short-changed in terms of their total future pension income because of overwhelming obstacles that prevent them getting the best deal.
When they retire, people in the private sector saving in a 'defined contribution' pension - now the most common form of company pension…

Please participate: Twitter use in the UK among adults 50+
I'm a UK post-graduate student studying how people over 50 use Twitter. There is very little research in this area and I'd welcome participation from any member of the Grey Pride community. I think social media is very empowering for people of all ages and more attention should be paid to how older adults use it. Here is a link to a description of the study and a short survey - Thanks!…
