Hi to all of you, we held the launch of the Doncaster 50plus Roadshow on March 21st and it was very successful. The roadshow was launched by our Civic Mayor Eva Hughes. This year’s Budget announcement included a nasty surprise for the country’s older people; the amount of income that is not taxed will be frozen for those aged over 65, ending the longstanding entitlement to a higher personal allowance for pensioners.
This will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the people approaching retirement who are trying to make financial plans for their future.
The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) has called for the government to appoint a Minister for Older People in their latest report.
There was a controversy a few years ago regarding exit fees when you sell a retirement property, with 1% being paid to the landlord. Some companies voluntarily stopped this. I'm a UK post-graduate student studying how people over 50 use Twitter. There is very little research in this area and I'd welcome participation from any member of the Grey Pride community.
