Always Too Busy

I believe that we are all put on this earth, to help each other, and to live in peace and harmony. This story tells us all we need to know - and how we should be towards others, as we grow older:

This is a true story that happened in Japan. In order to renovate the house, someone in Japan broke open the wall. Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls. When tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there because…

SPAM, AND NOT THE EDIBLE TYPE,...SPAM EMAILS, SPAM MAIL......

I watched a programme lately that warned people especially elderly people not to be taken in by "you have won this amount of money" or 'Holiday/Cruise" etc.,     If your life is being made a misery by such mail, just reseal it, put the senders address on the front of the envelope plus the words "free post" on the envelope and post it back to the sender, they will get fed up by having to pay the extra postage plus and therefore leave you alone.  If this does not work, then put in extra waste…

Why a government’s care reform advisor wants you to ‘kick a minister’

Care Commission author Andrew Dilnot speaks to the Saga over 50s about why he is not mincing his words about care reform as we find ourselves in the midst of a care crisis that could eclipse that of pensions

It's been six months since the government commissioned report on the Funding of Care and Support was published.

The Dilnot Commission urged the government to dramatically improve the current system in order to do away with the worries and concerns of those…

As I've Grown Older

As I've grown older, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world, too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. ... Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play, on the computer, until 4 AM, or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 &70's, and if I, at the…

Have we failed our children?

I ask this because it seems more and more that younger people view us 'oldies' with alarm and suspicion. Listening to Radio 1 this morning, the discussion turned to older people and the inability to keep themselves clean. Then one of the commentators blithely said "it's as though they are from another planet". This upset me so much that I emailed to complain. What I was really complaining about was the lack of sensitivity for a people who youngsters are increasingly seeing as 'them'. Why do…

Fit for every occasion

Strictly speaking, I don't approve of me using the word "fit". Nowadays, it is considered more accurate and acceptable to use "seizure". That's because past, and even present generations use "fit" in some strange ways. For example, "I nearly threw a fit", could mean the person was shocked to such an extraordinary degree that she/he was on the verge of an hysterical outburst. Phew!

Seizure for every occasion. Not quite as snappy. No positive connotations of being so healthy that no set…

Elderly Man and Swimming Pool!

An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years.

He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.

He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.

As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing…

Flashing banner induces nausea

For me, the flashing banner at the top of the pages induces nausea. Is it a new feature? I don't remember seeing it before and if doesn't disappear from the site then I will!

DISABLED in my area of LLANDUDNO

Today as my arm is in a complete cast, i went to town to shop. It is quite noticeable how people look right past you when you could do with an extra pair of hands. I am 64 and maybe as my totally grey hair is coloured, the people think i am not old enough to offer. So, although i feel old and lonely at the moment perhaps it is a question of not how old is old, it is when do you need help when you feel old?

Customer Loyalty "No Chance"

I have eventually realised that

“customer loyalty” in 2011 counts for nothing, I have tended to

stick with the same Utility Companies, TV Company, and Car and House

Insurance Providers, Maybe I have been a bit slow on the “swapping

and changing” of suppliers that some people do, but I mistakenly

thought that I would be rewarded for “Staying With” a particular

company and being rewarded by them with the best deals. But 'Oh,…
