The Winter of my Life

You know. . . Time has a way of moving quickly And catching you unaware of the passing years .

It seems just yesterday that I was young , Just married and embarking on my new life with my mate . And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago , And I wonder where all the years went !

I know that I lived them all   ...

And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams  …

Anchor finds ageing population sparks money worries across the generations

A lack of money in old age is the biggest fear for more than one in five of the general public*, according to new research published by Anchor today.

A total of 21 per cent of adults most fear not having enough money to retire, pay for their care or keep their home when they get older. Only a loss of independence…

Do you agree with Dr Rowan Williams? Are older people tolerated rather than valued?

In his last speech in the House of Lords before he steps down, the Archbishop of Canterbury has warned that British society is missing out on a massive contribution older people could play because too many people are simply waiting for them to die.

In an article in…

Our Time in The Sun.............

It would seem, if BBC News reports are to believed [are they?], that huge numbers of people throughout the country are bemoaning government policies concerning welfare payments including housing benefit, Jobseekers Allowance and various other “benefits.”  The question is why this should be the case.

The British electorate were happy enough to dump Brown and his cronies when the full reality of the country’s…

Starbucks, Amazon & Google.......

And so it is that we drift, inevitably, towards the end of 2012 and the time has come to look back on the last year to see what has been learnt.

On that aspect alone, I would suggest that the answer is quite simply – Nothing.  There is an ancient quotation that goes, “Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”  This has, wrongly, be attributed to Euripides but the…

The BBC TV Media are burying the plight of the elderly in this country.

As far as pensioners groups are concerned, there is The National Pensioners Convention.

Age/UK/ Help the aged/ and Grey Pride/.

The National Pensioners Convention which Im a member of, never ever gets featured on the BBC.

The group have huge meetings in Brighton and Blackpool every year.  The BBC media rarely give it full coverage.

What the plight of our elderly people need, is the full support of the entire country of 60 million…

What are your plans for this Christmas?

One of my three sisters, who is a widow, has returned to the UK and is currently living with us while she looks for accommodation - so she sees our mother mostly at weekends. This Christmas we will be spending at home and we intend to make it a brilliant one. As money is tight all round, we have decided to spend just £20 on one person each. No buying for anybody else - which, of course, does not include the grandchildren who we will see on Boxing Day. So it's just us adults. Names were put…

RESPECT

Older people, the time is coming to stop complaining to each other and do  something about our plight. Our numbers increase daily, yet we're treated like nuisances. We have the answers.Together we must find them and use  them to our advantage to achieve our goal. And that goal must be RESPECT.

hungry in our hospitals

i am a retired nurse and i am going to do some research on the stories about our elderly demographic going hungry and in some cases starving to death in our hospitals. i thought this would be a good place to test the water so to speak and get some feedback.

The Grove Road Estate Inclusion Project - update Oct 2012

The estate still suffers from a few negative people who do all they can to run down, criticize, mock and actually sabotage our project. Badly in need of a sense of humour a few months ago I nicknamed them the Death Eaters. One of them comes to events now - regularly - but don't get excited: he turns up with a sardonic smile on his face, counts heads (trying to make out the project is for a 'select minority' and therefore a flop) and leaves... Our innocent and optimistic workshop leaders…

Inside Out BBC TV Programme

Last night I watched Inside Out TV Programme on BBC at 7.30pm.  The programme was about the Welfare of older people.

Top of the list was depression and isolation and who is going to pay for medical treatment for the elderly in the future

The Government seem to skip over the issues and welfare of older people and to me we do not look after the elderly in this country at all and that is shameful.

Bowls clubs

Why don't more retired people join bowls clubs.?  It need not be expensive but is good exercise and you get to meet a new set of friends.  I play in Teignmouth,Devon and meet people from all over the coutry that come to our area on tour.  We tour also all over the country every year.  If you find the outdoor game to heavy then try the indoor game it's just as much fun
