From Jan: Age UK Internet Champion and now National Digital Leader

I imagine that when I was diagnosed with the mental health condition cyclothymia (rapid cycling bipolar) 5 years ago most people expected me to curl up and shrivel away. I know there were a few who hoped I would (LOL, as they say!). Far from it. Here's my guest blog on the Big Lottery Fund site, posted by BIG today:…

bus passes and winter fuel allowances

I am disheartened and frankly ashamed at the facile level of debate  from"professionals and MP's" that surrounds the very real possibility of stopping free bus travel  and  the winter fuel allowance. Question Time with David Dimbleby was an example. The focus is all about spurious short term financial gains and nothing about the potential  impact  on the physical and emotional well being of the elderly, as well on the local economy. We go into our towns to meet friends, go to classes and…

Were they really the ‘good old days’?

The Budget – a surprise raid on pensioners

This year’s Budget announcement included a nasty surprise for the country’s older people; the amount of income that is not taxed will be frozen for those aged over 65, ending the longstanding entitlement to a higher personal allowance for pensioners.

This will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the people approaching retirement who are trying to make financial plans for their future.
