I am blessed I have a huge garden almost half an acre, well some people might not call it a garden,...I try to cut the grass, but always leave islands of wild flowers and I notice new wild flowers all the time,. I have a plethora of bumble bees, dragonflies, butterflies all shapes and colours, last year I saw for the first time ever a young badgder, owls hoot at night and at dusk I watch the tiny bats whizzing across the across with such a speed I just catch sight in the corner of my eye.
Today I am on flood alert 7 floods so far but all in the winter, now its the summer too....thinking of tying a long length of rope attached to a boat on the ground, to my bedroom window ( I jest).
One day I was outside in my jungle of a garden with my two dogs..all of a sudden out of nowhere appeared the largest dragonfly I have ever seen, it was almost like a minature helicopter. with yellow and black stripes....both the two dogs and myself ran for the front door and got jammed in the middle...hilarious....but it was scary. I wrote to the dragonfly society on the internet and was told that this is indeed a british dragonfly, unusual but not rare.....so the next time you see an huge black and yellow dragonfly don't panic or think you have been drinking too much....its the real thing.
I used to keep hens and bees, and am going to keep hens again...my favourite hen was a maran hen, they lay the most beautiful eggs that have dark brownalmost black shells....the yolks are deep orange and the eggs taste divine. nothing beats the taste of a really fresh egg.
Sadly as lucky as I am and as happy as I am I still live next door to the neighbour from hell. Cannot sell my house and land because it floods, my only hope is that the holding bay they will be building will be enough to hold the flood waters away from my home.
