Today we are excited to announce the launch of a new national project: The Anchor Community Band!
Building on the success of the campaign calling for a dedicated Minister for Older People, Anchor want to continue raising awareness of issues affecting this growing demographic and plan to produce a charity single that celebrates the positive aspects of ageing which are often overlooked.
Anchor are looking for people over 60 to contribute to the words of a single which, once written, will be recorded by older people living in our care homes and retirement housing properties across England, known collectively as The Anchor Community Band.
We want to hear about the life experiences of older people around the country including details of lifetime highlights, achievements, challenges overcome and aspirations for the future.
Music is a powerful medium which brings people together, we want to create a record that highlights the wealth of talents and experience older people have, gives them a voice and becomes synonymous with the benefits of old age.
All the money raised from sales of the single will go towards Contact the Elderly, a national charity which aims to combat loneliness and isolation faced by older people who live alone.
Six key questions have been written for those wishing to getting involved to answer and the responses people provide will be used to inform the lyrics of the single. A new Group has been created on the Grey Pride site for people to join if they wish to take part in this project. Find the Group here or for more information about taking part message the site moderator Kathryn.
The success of this single will depend on what we have to say through it, so please don’t be shy or modest! Let the world know what you’ve done with your life, what has made you happy and proud during it, the best advice you’ve ever received and which aspects of aging you think should be celebrated.
The Anchor Community Band needs YOU!
