Incredible as it may seem, it's snowing here in Birmingham. Woke up this morning, went into kitchen to make a cuppa, thought 'It's a bit cold...' Waited for the rain... SNOW! And it's nearly the beginning of August.
WHAT IS GOING ON? Have we offended Mother Nature/Eywa/Gaia so much that even the farmers and gardeners are being punished?
The radishes are all leaf, the lettuces a soggy mass. The peas and beans are huddled at ground level and won't climb their sticks. Have only seen a couple of slugs all 'summer' and not a single caterpillar or snail.
I'm not religious - spiritual, maybe - but I'm praying now for a fresh start for us all. Maybe the climatologists who've been telling us lately that latest climate summit didn't go far enough and that, with the amount of CO2-creating resources already mined we'll have gone over the tipping point if we burn it are right.
We have our community garden and our recycling bins. We're being careful. Maybe we're not being radical enough. Any ideas out there about how a two tower block sheltered housing scheme can be more respectful towards the climate please? I think we need to do more...
Best wishes to all
