We created Oldie Composers to support Young songwriters, which supports Barnardo's.
We love the thought of people using their talents to help disadvantaged youngsters in this country.
BUT, the one thing I have learnt over the last year is that the young people who entered the competition, really enjoyed it. The top four who won the trip to London said it was an experience they would never forget.
So I got to thinking, there must be many hundreds if not thousands, of older songwriters, who would love to have the opportunity to go to London and record a song, or watch someone else record their song. They don't have to have ever written a song before, they just need to be able to record it some way, either on computer or on a cd. But we are also inviting those who have written songs, who have even been in bands and are still actively playing. This is a real chance to have your song heard by two of the top presenters on Radio 2.
Then comes the question, will the young songwriters songs be very different from the oldies?
Will the older songwriters be more traditional, or are there oldies out there just begging to rap or record some heavy metal.
Wiil the young songwriters out there test the water and go for something different?
The good thing is, they can enter as many times as they like.. so go for it!!
I am really looking forward to receiving more songs from the Older songwriters, the competition is open now and only costs £20.00 to enter, and they will be helping Barnardos to give children a better life.
