I think dancing classes should be on prescription. Ive lost about ten years in this past year and over a stone in weight, just by dancing. I do Modern Jive every week, Salsa occasionally and have just started to learn Bachatta. Need a male partner for Ballroom? Where are all the fit men?
Thanks for the message. I will spread the word! Won't have time for a blog (for reasons too boring to go into here) but will put the Grey Pride link on The Red Tent's Fb page and mention it to the crones!
All the best with the campaigning - I'm doing my bit for bipolar people (only diagnosed when I was 50 and it's a whole new world of ignorance and discrimination!)
I'm the director of a women's social network (therapeutic and creative) in Birmingham called The Red Tent (Heart of England). Every month we do something the members fancy doing, such as a workshop or a trip - or just lunch, shopping cinema. At our December meeting, we do a 'croning' ceremony which is for post-menopausal women. A crone is actually a 'crowned woman' - a woman who has survived her childbearing years - and all her adventures and romances! - and we celebrate her entry into the 3rd stage of life: the wise woman, dispensing her knowledge and love to the community in a different way. We go to a separate room from the younger women, where we chat and close the door on past experiences, hurts, losses etc. And blow out an old candle as a symbol of closing this door. Then we process to the main room, where we're greeted with a hug by the younger women and literally crowned (we use Christmas party hats we make ourselves for each individual woman). We light a new candle to symbolize a fresh start, and then consume chocolate cake! It's a delightful ceremony, with tears and laughter, and brings the peer group of 'crones' very close together.
We believe that older people have a very special and crucial role in society, and perhaps this is why we are 'thrown away' by some people. They simply do not want to hear what we have to say: that running after money and status are not as important as love, friendship, community, Nature etc...
Hi, The Theatre I visited was Weymouth Pavilion Complex. Not sure about the position for the Grey Pride petition? However the web address is; www.weymouthpavilion.com
Phonr No. for Info; 01305 783225. Hope this helps. Byeee
Just back from my visit to the Theatre. Excellent show, 'That'll be the Day'! Terrific Cast, so Talented & Versatile. Brought many memories back, as the music was from 50's onward.
Full house, majority Grey Pride candidates, all having a whale of a time, & singing our hearts out. Nothing to beat a live show!
August 9th, My Birthday! Thank you for ur Welcome to Grey Pride.
Not that I'll ever be seen that way, in fact 1st thing today was to apply the Nice & Easy Shade 9a!! Set up now for tonights celebrations. Tandoori & a Show! There's Life in the Ol' Gal yet! lol ; D
Petition signed, sent to a number of 'older' contacts likely to be interested and forwarded link to Stewart Jackson our local member of parliament to support.
